Why hire Speers Photography?

While anyone with a modern camera can take a pretty good picture these days, to "make" a photo takes an extra effort. Beyond the $20,000 worth of equipment I use – which is way more than the average camera owner works with – what my clients have always sought when hiring me was to have an image that go beyond the snapshot to not only convey what is in front of the camera but to also bring out the intangible aspects that reflect the client's qualities. Through choices in lighting and composition, extra information is presented to the viewer. Things like depth and volume, quality and desirablity, experience and knowledge.

I was shooting interiors for one homebuilder from eastern Canada who had a home they wanted shot in Calgary. The marketing person commented that compared to the photographers she'd been using, I was the most expensive (which is funny because I know I'm hardly the most expensive photographer I know of) - but when she got the images she commented that I provided the "best" photos she'd gotten. It was the things beyond just getting the lighting right, but also knowing where to move the decorations and furniture and being willing to make the effort.

When a potential client decides a snapshot photo is "good enough" what they're usually telling their customers is that they are only "good enough" – but not the best in their field.

By hiring a professional photographer (such as myself) a business tells its customers "we take the extra steps to make sure you're getting the best."

The example below shows the difference between a snapshot and good businesss portrait, aka a headshot.

Professional photography - snapshot versus headshot
